Installation of Aviation Fuel Pipelines by Horizontal Directional Drilling

The Airport Authority has adopted non-dredged Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) to install two new aviation fuel pipelines between Sha Chau and the airport island. Lying in the rock stratum 100m below seabed, the 5.2km-long pipelines are the world’s longest pipelines installed using HDD. The installation was completed and the new pipelines will commence operation in the third quarter of 2018.
